Since the Xcel Energy Center was built specifically for NHL hockey, there are amazing views of the ice from nearly every seat in the venue. There are multiple levels of seating, but the sections closest to the ice are numbered 101 through 126. Blue line seating at the Xcel Energy Center is in the following sections: 103, 104, 117, 116. Directly behind the net are sections 123 and 110. Face off circle sections include 115, 105, 118, and 102. The Minnesota Wild bench is directly in front of section 117, and the visitors section is in front of section 115. The upper deck has great views of the ice, and most nights tickets can be found along the sidelines. Sections 201 through 207 face the player's benches. Sections 216 through 222 face the penalty box.
The Xcel Energy Center first opened its doors on September 29, 2000. As with most new sports venues, the first game tends to be a preseason event. In this case, the new National Hockey League franchise Minnesota Wild faced the Mighty Ducks of Anaheim. The Wild eeked out a 3-1 victory. The Wild is known for its sellout crowds. At one point, the venue was completely sold out for 409 consecutive games. This is also a testament to the fan base of the city of St. Paul.
