Spurs Tickets

It seems like the San Antonio Spurs have sat atop the NBA forever, having been one of the league’s best teams for the last 20 years. Last season was no different. The Spurs finished the regular season with a record of 61-21, good for the second seed in the Western Conference playoffs. In the first two rounds of the playoffs, the Spurs disposed of the Grizzlies and Rockets, each in six games, and met the powerhouse Golden State Warriors in the Western Conference finals. By the time they got there, the Spurs were badly injured as a team, and were no match for the Warriors, losing in four games.

It is very obvious the Spurs plan to ride their old players until the wheels fall off. In the offseason, they resigned Many Ginobili, Pau Gasol, and Patrick Mills. Tony Parker has said in the past this upcoming season might be his last, and for Ginobili and Gasol, it might be their last as well.

The San Antonio Spurs have been one of the NBA’s better teams for a very long time. At the end of the 2017-2018 season they were forced to trade Kawhi Leonard to the Toronto Raptors, and they got DeMar DeRozan out of the deal. The Nuggets had a final record that allowed them a shot in the playoffs. They played the Denver Nuggets hard in round one, before bowing out in game seven by a score of 90-86.

For the draft, the Spurs had the 19th overall selection and also the 29th overall selection thanks to the Kawhi Leonard trade. At 19 overall they took power forward Luka Samanic from Croatia. At 29 overall they took Kentucky freshman shooting guard Keldon Johnson. As far as free agency is concerned, they did nothing. Zero. Literally, their only two official roster moves outside of the draft were to wave a couple of training camp players in October.

The Spurs are going ride this roster as is, and we are not sure how far it is going to get them. Greg Popovich is also becoming increasingly erratic with his commentary, and some say the old Spurs ways are not contingent with the modern game. If this is so, then it might be time for him to call it a career.
