Additional Miami Heat Info

The Miami Heat that seems to be stuck in the middle of the NBA- not good enough to contend for a championship, but not low enough in the final standings to get a high draft choice. The Heat finished the 2018-2019 four games below .500.

The primary objective of the Heat this offseason was to improve their perimeter scoring. The first step of that was to send their first-round draft choice, 13th overall, on Kentucky freshman shooting guard Tyler Herro. The second step to that was one of the biggest headline-making moves of the offseason, a four-team trade between the Heat, Philadelphia 76ers, Los Angeles Clippers, and Portland Trail Blazers. In the trade, the Heat received Power Forward Meyers Leonard from the Trail Blazers and shooting guard Jimmy Butler from the 76ers. The Heat gave up Hassan Whiteside and Josh Richardson as part of the deal. After the trade, Butler signed a four year, 142 million dollar contract extension with the Heat. Butler and Herro will join the likes of shooting guard Deion Waiters, small forward Justise Winslow, and power forward Kelly Olynyk in Miami.

The Heat have a star player now that is surrounded by a good supporting cast.

Heat Past Season History

The Miami Heat had a very good 2015-2016 season. They finished the season with a record of 48-34, tied with three other teams. Due to tiebreakers, the Heat ended up as the third seed in the Eastern Conference playoffs. In round one, the Heat took on the sixth seed, Charlotte Hornets, defeating them in seven games. They advanced to round two, where they took on the Toronto Raptors, who defeated them in seven games. The off-season went about as badly as it could go for the Heat. Dwayne Wade left town, signing with the Chicago Bulls. Chris Bosh found that due to his heart condition, he would never be cleared to play again, although he is determined to. Entering this season, the Heat had very low expectations, and they currently stand with a record of 10-22, good for the third-worst record in the Eastern Conference so far. The team has some decent young role players, but they are missing a star. That is currently where this roster rebuilding effort stands.
