The Angels will spend the 2021 off-season looking to improve their pitching roster. Will 2022 be the year that the team finishes with a winning season? That all depends on pitching. Perry Minasian has managed to keep Mike Trout, Anthony Rendon, and Shohei Ohtani happy, but those power players need more solid pitching to back them up. Angles fans also know that the availability of free agent, top tier pitchers is small. Zack Greinke, Robbie Ray, Marcus Stroman, Max Scherzer and just a few others are hitting the open market. They will be enticed by big mony contracts across the league. Perry Minasian will need to put up some big dollars in order to acquire at least one of those big names.
Mind you, the Angels have to lock in Raisel Iglesias and see if Alex Cobb will produce great numbers without more injuries that kept him down for a large part of the 2021 season. Cobb is open to staying. Iglesias may chase the big money contract. At shortstop, the Angels were a bust. Look to Carlos Correa or Corey Seager to fill that position. Couple these possible improvements with the two more years that the Angels have with Shohei Ohtani under contract, and the team could be on the winning side in 2022.
