Vikings Football 2022 Season Recap

The Vikings led the NFC North in 2022, going 13-4 overall. Their 8-1 home record was tied for the best in the NFC. Going into the playoffs, the team was fresh off a victory against the Chicago Bears on January 8, when they took on the New York Giants in the NFC Wild Card game on January 15, 2023. Fans were excited just to have made it to the playoffs, but they certainly expected to come away with a first round win against the New York Giants. While the Giants were in the lead 17-14 at half, Vikings fans had every reason to believe that their team would come out ahead in the end. Sadly, the team fell short. Losing 31-24, the Vikings closed out a great regular season effort with a loss. Quarterback Kirk Cousins finished the 2022-23 season with 33 touchdowns and just seven interceptions. He threw for a total of 4221 yards, with a completion rate of 66.3%. He'll be back at the helm in 2023.

Vikings History and Memorable Players

One of the most famous defensive players for the Minnesota Vikings was Alan Page. Alan Page was a dominant defensive tackle who played for the Vikings from 1967 to 1978. He was known for his exceptional skills, relentless work ethic, and how his style made an enormous impact on the field. Alan Page recorded 148.5 sacks during his NFL career. He also had 23 fumble recoveries in that time. He was named the NFL Most Valuable Player (MVP) in 1971, becoming the first defensive player to earn the award. He was also selected as a First-Team All-Pro six times and earned nine Pro Bowl selections. In his MVP season, Page recorded nine sacks and two safeties, helping to lead the Vikings to the Super Bowl. Page was inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 1988, recognizing his outstanding contributions to the game.

Fran Tarkenton was yet another great Vikings player. Tarkenton played for Minnesota from 1961 through 1966, left for the Giants for five seasons, and then returned to Minnesota for seven more seasons. His most productive seasons came in that second effort with the Vikings. He led the team to a pair of 12-2 seasons in that time. Over his career, he was a nine-time Pro Bowl selection, he was named the Associated Press MVP twice, and he was named Player of the Week a total of seven times.

Adrian Peterson was a fan favorite from 2007 through 2016. Peterson had seven seasons where he rushed for over 1200 total yards. He scored 18 touchdowns in 2009, and had just one season during his career with the Vikings where he didn't scoure in the double digits.

The Minnesota Vikings have played in the Super Bowl four times. They appeared in the Super Bowl following the 1969, 1973, 1974, and 1976 seasons. However, they haven't secured a Super Bowl victory yet. They have made the playoffs 31 times in franchise history. In the past twenty seasons (prior to 2023) the team has won just four playoff games out of 12 opportunites. This is partly attributible to the success of other teams in their division.
