The
O’Shaughnessy Theatre is located on the 110+ acre St. Paul Campus of The
College of St. Catherine. The O'Shaughnessy Auditorium plays host to concerts,
lectures and theatrical performances.
The
theater’s elegant façade looks out on a magnificently groomed garden. The lobby
is expansive with dramatic tall windows. The interior space is warm and
energetic. The theatre was originally constructed in the 1970’s and was
recently renovated in January 2003. The face-lift included new main floor
seats, new carpet, better lighting, upgraded dressing rooms, concessions and
more.
The
intimate on-campus venue has a main floor seating capacity of 653 and a full
house capacity of 1,739; but with balcony and extra pit seating, the auditorium
can max out at 1,814 guests. The theatre has hosted many musical acts, theatre
shows and ballet performances. The O’Shaughnessy is a great venue with
comfortable seating, high quality sound and free on-campus parking to see a
show.
St. Catherine students are periodically treated to some of the rarest live shows by respected artists. Lucinda Williams, Etta James, Elvis Costello and Cyndi Lauper have all procured a packed house in the O?Shaughnessy. While these shows might be few and far between and are absolute must buy tickets, the O?Shaughnessy also is the host of many joint theatre productions by the University of St. Thomas and St. Catherine. These shows are often attended by students from both colleges, and they are terrific displays of local acting talent from some of St. Paul?s top-notch universities. Any event hosted at the O?Shaughnessy is sure to have a certain level of artistic merit, and that?s why there is no excuse to get out to the O?Shaughnessy Auditorium and experience its quality. Tickets often go fast to students, so don?t hesitate when you see a show at the O?Shaughnessy.
