Located just southwest of the Twin Cities Metro area, the Midwest Wireless Civic Center is a grand multi-purpose arena. Located in downtown Mankato on the corner of Hickory and Riverfront, the arena is home to the Minnesota State University Mankato Mavericks ice hockey team and hosts many big name concerts and events every year.
The Midwest Wireless Civic Center hosted its first Minnesota State University Mankato Mavericks hockey game on February 3, 1995 when the Mavericks christened the state-of-the art facility with a 6-3 win over Alabama-Huntsville in front of 3,147 fans. The civic center holds approximately 4,712 for hockey games, but can hold 5,000 with standing room only. The 1995-96 season was the MSU men's first full season in the facility and the Mavericks responded by posting an 11-3-2 home record. As an integral part of the Mavericks' move to NCAA Division I status, the Midwest Wireless Civic Center provides many amenities for the team and the fans alike.
Besides being a hockey hot spot, the Midwest Wireless Civic Center has hosted nationally televised events, such as the Riders Professional Ladies Figure Skating Championships and Monday Nitro World Championship Wrestling as well as collegiate, international and professional sporting events. Formerly known as the Mankato Civic Center, the name change took place on January 1, 1999 when the Civic Center was named after its’ sponsor the Midwest Wireless phone company.
One of the most popular concert sites in the upper midwest, Midwest Wireless Center has played host to such acts as Aerosmith, Barry Manilow, Kenny Rogers, John Denver, Brooks & Dunn, Alan Jackson, John Michael Montgomery, Johnny Cash, Kiss, Motley Crue, ZZ Top, Boston, the Moody Blues, Jars of Clay, Disney on Ice and Lord of the Dance. Concert configurations can seat up to 8,200 screaming fans and the smaller venue offers great sight lines and acoustics. Fans can feel up close to big name stars.
Besides hockey and music, the Midwest Wireless Civic Center has established itself as one of the Midwest's premier centers for meetings and entertainment. With the 7,300 seat arena, large Banquet/Exhibit Hall, state-of-the-art Conference Center, and unique Reception Hall, the center can deliver any event that you can imagine.
