Legends Field is an outdoor baseball stadium located in Tampa, Florida. Its main
tenant is the Tampa Yankees. They are a minor league affiliate of the New York Yankees.
During the spring, the New York Yankees work out and play their spring training
home games at Legends Field. The New York Yankees Player Development Center is also
located at Legends Field. Players from the New York Yankees have rehabilitation
assignments here during the Major League Baseball regular season.
Legends Field was built in 1996. It was built directly across the street from Raymond
James Stadium; home of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Legends Field has a natural grass
field and its dimensions are very similar to those of Yankee Stadium in New York,
New York. It has a number of decorative touches that are reminiscent of the original
Yankee Stadium, most notably the facing that's been a feature of the original ballpark
since it was built. Outside of the stadium there are plaques celebrating all of
the Yankees whose numbers have been retired.
Legends Field seats approximately 10,000 fans. The majority of the reserved seats
are located between the bases with just a few seats that extend past first or third
base. The seats are known for their comfort with plenty of leg room. The only consistent
complaints about the ballpark are that it is built between two very busy highways
and that there aren't enough places to stand and watch games.
For those fans that want to sit down and enjoy a great ball game under the Florida
sun, Legends Field is an excellent stadium to visit. In fact, George Steinbrenner's
suite is in full view of the rest of the patrons with no separation from the rest
of the seats. This ball park is a one of kind stadium; you won't want to miss the
chance to the see the legendary New York Yankees take the field at Legends Stadium!
