Originally opened in 1984 as a bingo hall, Jackpot Junction added tables and slot machines in 1988 and a convention center in 1996. Built in 1999, the amphitheater is a relatively new structure to Jackpot Junction. Today the Lower Sioux Community operates the casino. The Lower Sioux name was assigned to the Mdewakantons by the U.S. government in 1851 after treaties were established.
