The Ford Amphitheatre is located on the Florida State Fairgrounds in Tampa, Florida
at the junction of US 301 and I-75. The amphitheatre has 30-40 events throughout
the year, attracting many nationally acclaimed artists. The outdoor venue has a
capacity of about 20,000 people, with a mix of reserved seating and an open lawn.
The Ford Amphitheatre is the first outdoor, state-of-the-art concert facility of
its kind serving the greater Tampa Bay Area. This unique $23 million, 17 acre venue
features a 2.2 acre translucent fabric membrane stretched over an arched galvanized
steel truss superstructure. The Ford Amphitheatre features over 9,500 reserved seats
under the one of a kind canopy. The general admission Festival Lawn provides a unique
open air concert experience for nearly 10,000 additional fans. The sloped grassy
lawn peaks at 40 feet from the stage floor offering a great view of touring artists.
The Ford Amphitheatre features top name entertainers including Stevie Nicks, The
Who and many, many more. All shows offer excellent state of the art digital sound
and terrific sightlines. There are two 20'x30' video screens located on each side
of the Main Stage and newly added, technology advanced LED screens on the Festival
Lawn area so leave your binoculars at home.
Situated in the heart of the bustling Tampa Bay area, accessibility is one of the
many benefits the Florida State Fairgrounds and the Ford Amphitheatre has to offer.
The over 355 acre complex is conveniently located off interstate highways, close
to some of Florida's most popular attractions, beaches, state parks, historic locations,
downtown business, shopping malls, and numerous hotels and restaurants. The Florida
State Fairgrounds has more than 16,000 lighted parking spaces for fair and concert
goers. Parking lots generally open two hours in advance of the show time. Venue
gates generally open 90 minutes prior to the show time. For sold-out shows, parking
lots and/or venue gates may open earlier.
Newly opened, the original start time for the Ford Amphitheatre project was September
2003, however due to design issues with the amphitheatre roof and stage building,
construction of the 60 foot columns that support the roof structure did not begin
until mid January 2004. With only six months from the start of vertical construction
to guest occupancy there was no room for error in completion of the project. The
Ford Amphitheatre was completed on schedule and within budget by its first scheduled
concert in July 2004.
The Ford Amphitheatre offers a wide variety of food and beverage for the enjoyment
of guests including Deluxe Hamburgers, Nathans Famous Hot Dogs, Cubans, Nachos,
Carvel Ice Cream, Starbucks Coffee, soft drinks and a wide variety of ice cold beer
and frosty cocktails. Other amenities include full service restroom facilities located
in both the East and West Plazas, plenty of merchandise stands two retention ponds
and two paved plazas. All shows are rain or shine and many sell out fast!
The Ford Amphitheatre works to provide a safe, comfortable, and enjoyable experience
