The Duluth Entertainment Convention Center, located at 350 Harbor Drive in Duluth, Minnesota is a multi-purpose arena located just off the shores of Lake Superior. The arena, commonly referred to as the DECC (pronounced “deck”), is the home to the University of Minnesota Duluth Bulldog hockey team and hosts many big name concert every year.
The prime waterfront complex was built at a cost of 6.5 million dollars. Located near Duluth's famous Aerial Lift Bridge, the DECC is a definite hot spot in Duluth. The arena portion of the complex houses a 190-by-85 foot hockey rink with 5,333 seats, and six locker rooms, including the recently-remodeled 2 million dollar locker room facility now used by the men and women Bulldog hockey teams. The arena has been the home to the Bulldogs since 1966 and continues to be one of the hottest tickets in town. The DECC is famous for hosting the NCAA Division I men's hockey championships in both 1968 and 1981 and for hosting the 2003 Women's NCAA Division I Frozen Four.
The DECC boasts a spacious lobby that separates the arena from its popular auditorium. The auditorium seats 2,400 and plays host to concerts, symphonies, plays, operas, graduations and a variety of other activities. Besides the main arena and the auditorium, the DECC has a smaller ice arena named Pioneer Hall. Added in 1976, Pioneer Hall contains a hockey rink with smaller seating capability utilizing fold-out bleacher seating. Pioneer Hall is also the home of the Duluth Curling Club with eight curling rinks and a lounge area. It is the largest curling venue in the United States, and has hosted two World Championships, the US Olympic Trials, and numerous National events.
In the mid 1990’s a 30 million dollar state of the art convention center was added to the DECC. The convention center is the site of numerous social, business and entertainment events and features a 26,000 square foot Lake Superior Ballroom, a 12,000 square foot Harborside Ballroom and 25 meeting rooms. The DECC also boasts an OMNIMAX Theatre which opened in the spring of 1996 and a 10-screen Movie theater complex was added in 2005.
Parking at the DECC is a snap with a ramp and a surface lot connected to the downtown Skywalk. The Arena offers a wide variety of concession foods and beverages and alcohol is available during certain events. This full-service complex offers many amenities to hockey fans, concert goers and even movie watchers.
